Moonspell Return with New Album Far From God
Portuguese gothic metal titans Moonspell have officially announced their long-awaited new studio album Far From God, set for release on July 3 via Napalm Records. Alongside the announcement, the band has unveiled a cinematic music video for the album’s title track, giving fans a first glimpse into the record’s dark and immersive world.
Frontman Fernando Ribeiro shared a deeply personal perspective on the song’s origins:
“For years, I had lost my fascination with vampires. Hollywood turned them into comic figures, cheap Halloween costumes, relics stripped of their mystique. That changed when Robert Eggers brought Nosferatu back to life in 2024. In that moment, I reconnected with the tragic, romantic creature Bram Stoker immortalized in his letters. Far From God poured out of me in one breath—it’s our first vampire-themed track in a very long time.”
The album dives headfirst into the essence of gothic storytelling—Baudelairean romance, existential guilt, Christ-like resurrections, and the shadowy realm of noble creatures of the night seep into every note. Reflecting on the creative process, Ribeiro added:
“It took time to meet the muse again. For five years, we struggled, failed, and at times truly believed we might never recreate our music. But we refused to give up. Far From God is a declaration of war against the recent decline of the style—a dark yet elegant symbol of gothic metal’s resurgence.”
Production duties were handled by Jaime Gomez Arellano (Paradise Lost, Sólstafir, Ghost). The album is already being described in press materials as “the Irreligious of the 21st century.” Pre-orders are now live.
